Ben Kingsley Parents: Meet Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji And Anna Lyna Mary Goodman

Who are Ben Kingsley Parents? Ben Kingsley is a British actor of English and Indian descent known for his wide range of roles.

He was born Krishna Pandit Bhanji on December 31, 1943, in Snainton, North Riding of Yorkshire, England.

Kingsley first began acting in amateur theatrical productions in Manchester, England and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1967.

He debuted on Broadway with the company in 1971 and acted extensively on television beginning in 1966.

When he was cast as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in the early 1980s, Kingsley returned to the big screen. He had made his cinematic debut in 1973’s Fear Is the Key.

He performed a lot of research and adopted Gandhi’s vegetarian diet and practice of yoga as part of his preparation for the role of the iconic Indian leader.

In the movie, critics remarked on his striking similarity to Gandhi; the portrayal is now among Kingsley’s most lauded ones.

Following his performance as Gandhi, Kingsley went on to star in such movies as Betrayal (1983), Turtle Diary (1985), and Pascali’s Island (1988).

He received an Oscar nomination for his part in the latter movie for best actor.

In addition, Kingsley acted in the movies Bugsy (1991), Schindler’s List (1993), and Sexy Beast (2000), for which he received a second Oscar nomination for best actor.

Anna Lyna Mary Goodman Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji are Ben Kingsley’s parents.

His father was born to an Indian Gujarati family in the East Africa Protectorate, which eventually changed its name to the Colony and Protectorate of Kenya in 1920.

His mother was an actress from England. Kingsley was not reared in his father’s faith and considers himself a Quaker, even though his father was an Isma’ili Muslim Gujarati Khoja.

Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji, the father of Ben Kingsley, was an Indian doctor of Gujarati ancestry who was born in Kenya. He was a prosperous spice trader who relocated from India to the Sultanate of Zanzibar.

Anna Lyna Mary (Goodman) Bhanji, Kingsley’s mother, was an English fashion model and actress who appeared in movies in the 1920s and 1930s.

The family believed that Kingsley’s maternal grandpa was of Russian or German Jewish ancestry, while his maternal grandmother was English and employed in East London’s garment area.

An English actress and fashion model, Anna Lyna Mary Goodman, appeared in movies in the 1920s and 1930s.

She was ashamed to mention that she was an unmarried mother because of her past.

Agnes Marion Goodman was her mother’s name, and although her father’s name is unknown, he is rumored to have been of Jewish ancestry.

Kingsley has refuted claims that he only wants to be addressed by his given name, saying, “If I have ever insisted on being addressed as ‘Sir’ by colleagues on a film set, I am terribly sorry. I don’t.”

In an interview with NPR, Kingsley said, “I love pushing the elastic of me around a bit to tell a story.” I enjoy telling tales.
