Gillian Anderson was born to Rosemary and Edward Anderson in Chicago, Illinois, on August 9, 1968.

Rosemary, her mother, worked as a computer analyst before becoming the vice president of Neurofibromatosis Inc., a West Michigan neurofibromatosis support group.

Her father, Edward, owned a film post-production company.

After Gillian’s birth, the family moved to Puerto Rico for 15 months and then to England, where they spent the next nine years of her childhood.

Eventually, they moved back to the United States and settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Gillian grew up.
