Mase founded his record label, All Out Records, in 1998. While still at So So Def Recordings, He joined the label with his band Harlem World, featuring his twin sister Stason. 

He and Harlem World member Blinky Blink performed on the soundtrack of The Rugrats Movie in the song “Take Me There” by Blackstreet & Ma.

Mase was born Mason Durell Betha on August 27, 1975, in Jacksonville, Florida, as a fraternal twin approximately two months premature to P. K. Betha and Mason Betha.

He was raised by two brothers and three sisters, including his twin sister, Stason, who was born just a few minutes after him. 

Mase’s father abandoned the family when he was three years old. Mase’s mother moved him and his siblings to Harlem, New York, in 1980, where he spent most of his upbringing.

Betha began getting into problems on the streets of Harlem in his early adolescence, and when he was 13, his mother brought him back to Jacksonville to live with relatives. Betha began visiting church for the first time while living in Jacksonville.

After moving back to Harlem at age 15, Betha emerged as a promising basketball player. In 1993, he was the team’s top point guard at Manhattan Center High School when he teamed up with Cameron Giles, later known as the rapper Cam’ron.

He aspired to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) but could not enroll in a Division I college due to poor academic performance. 

He attended the State University of New York at Purchase, where he realized he would unlikely enter the NBA. He began focusing more on writing music, producing demo tapes, and performing regularly at local nightclubs. Betha finally dropped out of college to focus solely on his music career.
