Yes, Pawan Kalyan, the leader of the Jana Sena Party, was detained by the Andhra Pradesh Police in a dramatic sequence of events related to the arrest of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu. 

Chandrababu Naidu was detained in connection with a graft case involving the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation for Rs 371 crore. Pawan Kalyan, who was on his way to visit Naidu, was also held.

The incident occurred after Pawan Kalyan’s flight to Vijayawada was canceled, resulting in a road trip.

He encountered numerous roadblocks and attempted to walk to Vijayawada after being stopped twice by authorities. The police eventually took him into preventative custody, but no charges were filed against him.

Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan arrests have heightened political tensions in Andhra Pradesh, with rumors circulating about possible alliances for the 2024 elections. This lawsuit continues to be a significant event in the political scene of Andhra Pradesh.

“How the former chief minister was detained today is terrible,” Kalyan told reporters on Saturday. We strongly oppose how the state authorities and the ruling party are carrying out arrests on the directives of one leader (CM Jagan).”

Naidu’s detention prompted outrage among party cadres across the state and widespread condemnation from political groups opposing the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). 

In Konaseema, police prevented Naidu’s son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh from traveling to Nandyal, who was then arrested.

These allegations stem from a corruption case involving the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC). Naidu is accused of arranging a Rs 371 crore fraud to educate unemployed youth. 

The investigation uncovered irregularities in allocating government cash to private firms, including alleged collaboration with Siemens.

Following Naidu’s detention, his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) called for a state-wide bandh (a strike or closure) in protest, which Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party backed. Passionate TDP supporters demonstrated, and the situation prompted increased security in Andhra Pradesh, particularly around Rajamundry Central Prison, where Naidu was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.

The arrest and ensuing occurrences have heightened political tensions in Andhra Pradesh, prompting discussion about prospective coalitions for the 2024 elections. 

Pawan Kalyan, stopped by police on his way to meet Naidu, had already formed an alliance with the TDP and the BJP for the 2024 elections, intending to challenge the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). These events reflect a watershed moment in political history.
