Shana Lynne Gadt, a lively and ever-present source of strength and resilience to friends, family, and animals, died quietly on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at her home in Mission, Kansas, after a valiant fight with cancer. She was 56 years old.
Shana’s life has been filled with love and adventure since she was born on October 25, 1966, in Newton, Kansas, to parents Peggy and Wayne Watts.

Shana and Peggy are believed to have led a “big life,” beginning in Peabody, Kansas, traveling throughout the country and eventually settling in the Kansas City region after Wayne died young. Shana and Peggy both had a strong desire to travel.

She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1980 and resided in Chicago and Hawaii before settling in Mission, Kansas, and married her husband of 20 years, Jeff Gadt. She had a long and prosperous career in meeting and event organizing.
She was predeceased by her parents, Peggy and Wayne Watts, and her stepfather, Larry Velasquez.
Stepson Jason Deihl, stepsister Stephanie McAvoy (Richard), stepbrother David Velasquez, father-in-law Wayne Gadt, mother-in-law Connie Gadt, brother-in-law Dwight Gadt, stepnieces Sydney and Kayleigh, and stepnephew Kyle survive her.

Shana died quietly on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at her home in Mission, Kansas, after a valiant fight with cancer. She was 56 years old.
On Friday, September 15, 2023, at 2 p.m., a memorial ceremony will be held in the Wesley Chapel on the grounds of Resurrection Leawood (13207 Roe Ave., Leawood, KS 66224), followed by a celebration of Shana’s life at her home in Mission, Kansas.

Instead of flowers, please donate in Shana’s memory to Gilda’s Place or Operation Wildlife, two community organizations she believed in and supported.
Shana’s fascinating personality will live on in the beautiful, meaningful—and often humorous—stories and recollections of how she touched the lives and emotions of so many.

Shana was recently featured on the Peacock network in the reality TV series “The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning.” Her program, which will run on The Bravo Channel on August 31, 2023, at 9:30 p.m. CST, demonstrates her open and honest attitude to fighting and addressing cancer.
Numerous close friends also appear in the presentation, and it’s a joy to watch her vibrant personality recorded on film—a rare peek into the emotional range of her life.
